New Dh37m parks to make city greener
Staff Report

Dubai: The city Municipality is undertaking four different projects, worth Dh53.5 million, to offer better services to the city's residents.

The projects include a Dh27 million pond park in Al Qusais 2, a Dh10 million neighbourhood park in Mirdif, a Dh12 million expansion project for Dubai Sports and Cultural Club, and Dh4.5 million animal quarantine centre in Al Khawaneej.

Engineer Rashad Bukhash, Director of the General Projects Department, who inspected the sites, said the works on the projects are expected to be completed this year.

Bukhash noted that the pond park in Al Qusais 2 is a new-generation park which is built as part of Dubai Municipality's plans to increase green areas and provide more recreational facilities to Dubai residents.

Relaxation

"The project, which is expected to be completed by May, is one of a series of pond parks that are being developed to turn vast areas around storm-water collection ponds into recreational areas where the residents can relax and unwind," he said.

There will be a hilly area overlooking the pond, a jogging track, playgrounds and boating facilities.

The Dhs10 million neighbourhood park in Mirdif, with a total area of 1.55 hectares, is expected to be completed by the end of February. The park will have dedicated sections for children aged 2-5 and 6-12 and there will be a 325 metre-long jogging track in the park.

Strategy

"The greenery strategy of Dubai Municipality aims to provide 5.5 square metres of recreational facility for every individual in the emirate," Bukhash said.

The Dh12 million expansion of Dubai Cultural and Sports Club involves construction of a stadium with a capacity of 3,300 spectators. This project is expected to be completed by June.

The Dhs4.5 million animal quarantine centre will be set up in Al Khawaneej as part of an extension of services of the Public Health Department's Veterinary Clinic in the area.
