Illegal vendors and beggers nabbed in December 2007Crackdown on vendors and beggars in Dubai Dubai: Dubai Municipality inspectors, in cooperation with Dubai Police and the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department, seized 350 people including street vendors, beggars and illegal car washers last month. According to Obeid Salem Al Shamsi, Assistant Director General of Dubai Municipality for Administrative and General Services Affairs, the sweep against the law-breakers had also resulted in the seizure of several low-quality goods, pirated CDs and food items. Civic inspectors conduct daily spot checks in streets and public places to prevent street vending, begging and car washing in public places by individuals in violation of a ruling by the Ministry of Labour in this regard. They caught a total of 350 people including 222 street vendors, 89 beggars, 16 car washers and 23 illegal butchers and fish cleaners in December. |
